7.0 An FTP Client in .NET

This program is used to send and receive files from and to an FTP server, in the same way as commercial applications such as CuteFTP or SmartFTP do. If you do not have access to a hosted FTP server, then you can install one locally under Add/Remove Programs > Windows components > IIS > Details > FTP service, or download a software package such as Cerberus FTP server.

To use this program, enter your FTP server address, your username and password, and press “log in”. The second screen should then appear, from here you can navigate down through folders by double-clicking on their name in the Folders box. To navigate back up through folders to root level again, press the ‘Root’ Button.

To upload files, press the ‘upload’ button, select your file, and it will be transferred into your current remote FTP folder. To download files, press the ‘download’ button, and then select the location to which you wish to save your local file.

(Source code availabile in the book Network Programming in .NET (Buy at Amazon UK) (Buy at Amazon US) , Chapter 6, Example 2)

You can download an .NET FTP component from www.ftpclient.co.uk
